The Plaza Hotel
Ah, The Plaza—where to even begin?
This hotel is straight out of a holiday movie (literally, if you’re a fan of Home Alone 2).
It’s right on Fifth Avenue, overlooking Central Park, and every Christmas, it feels like a fairytale.
I remember walking into the lobby last year, and the giant Christmas tree took my breath away.
The garlands, the twinkling lights—it’s so grand, yet somehow cozy.
Plus, you’re within walking distance to all the iconic holiday spots like the Rockefeller Center tree and the famous window displays on Fifth Avenue that I told you about in my NYC Christmas Itinerary.
It’s definitely one of my all-time favorite Christmas experiences in NYC.
Price range
Luxury ($500+).
Staying at The Plaza during the holidays is certainly a splurge, but the experience is unforgettable, with prices reflecting the grandeur.

Lotte New York Palace
Located right in the heart of Midtown, Lotte New York Palace is another holiday classic that I’ve come to love.
Gossip Girl anyone?
I make a point to visit every year, even if I’m not staying there, because their Christmas decorations are simply spectacular.
They have this massive Christmas tree in the courtyard that looks like something straight out of a winter wonderland.
And the lights!
It’s all so magical, especially if you go in the evening when the tree is glowing against the night sky.
You can also easily pop over to Rockefeller Center, which is just a few blocks away, and St. Patrick’s Cathedral is right there too—so everything is super close.
I think my tips for visiting New York City for the holidays will be great if you want to plan around this place, especially if you’re a New York first timer.

The Peninsula New York
If you’re in the mood for some holiday luxury, The Peninsula on Fifth Avenue is the perfect spot.
I love staying here in December because not only is the location ideal (you’re right next to all the Fifth Avenue shopping), but the Christmas decor inside the hotel is stunning.
They have this festive, cozy lobby with a beautifully decorated tree, and their rooftop winter igloos at Salon de Ning are incredible.
You can sip hot chocolate while looking out over the skyline—talk about holiday vibes!
Plus, it’s just a quick walk to Central Park, which is one of the best photo spots in NYC during Christmas, as well as one of Taylor Swift’s favorite places in New York City. I can see why!

The Langham, New York
The Langham on Fifth Avenue offers a more understated but equally beautiful holiday experience.
I stayed here one Christmas with Al when we wanted a quieter spot away from the Midtown craziness, and it was perfect.
The decorations are elegant and sophisticated—think chic, minimal holiday decor with soft lights and delicate wreaths.
It’s also super convenient for getting around.
Bryant Park’s Winter Village is just a short walk away, and it’s a great place to grab a cup of hot cider and stroll through the Christmas market.

The St. Regis New York
I have a bit of a soft spot for The St. Regis.
It’s classic, luxurious, and right in the middle of the holiday action.
I stayed here a couple of years ago during Christmas, and the lobby was stunningly decorated with a massive Christmas tree and festive floral arrangements.
You’re just a few blocks from Central Park and the MoMA, so after a day of holiday exploring, coming back to this cozy hotel was such a treat!
If you get the chance, pop into the King Cole Bar—it’s especially beautiful during the holidays and perfect for a quiet, festive drink.

The Waldorf Astoria (Currently Under Renovation)
Now, I have to give a shout out to the Waldorf Astoria, even though it’s under renovation at the moment.
I used to visit every Christmas, and it’s one of the most iconic hotels when it comes to holiday decor.
They always went all out with huge, beautifully decorated trees and sparkling lights that filled the lobby.
I can’t wait to see what they do once they reopen! It’s sure to be a stunner again.
As far as the New Yorkers know (thank you for the intel, zia!) it might reopen in spring 2025, so stay tuned!
I mean, it’d be a great place to stay if you’re planning a New York City getaway this spring, right?

Four Seasons Hotel New York Downtown
Four Seasons Downtown has a more modern vibe, and if you’re staying in lower Manhattan, it’s a great choice.
I love that it’s a bit away from the Midtown madness, but still close to plenty of holiday fun.
The decorations here are sleek and stylish—perfect if you like a more contemporary take on Christmas.
Plus, you’re near the World Trade Center and the Oculus, which are both beautifully decorated during the holidays.

The Ritz-Carlton New York, Central Park
I’ve stayed at the Ritz-Carlton on Central Park South during Christmas, and it was such a magical experience!
The hotel’s decor feels cozy and timeless, with elegantly decorated trees and festive garlands.
But the best part?
Waking up to views of Central Park covered in snow. It’s the most beautiful winter scene, and it makes you feel like you’re living in a postcard.
The skating rink at Wollman Rink is just a short walk away, too, so you can really embrace the holiday spirit.

With views over Central Park and prime holiday decor, The Ritz-Carlton is one of the pricier options but for good reason.

Conrad New York Downtown
If you want to stay downtown in a more modern setting, I highly recommend the Conrad New York Downtown.
I stayed here one holiday season, and the decorations are gorgeous in a sleek, contemporary way.
The massive atrium fills with light, and they add festive touches throughout the hotel. You’re also near Brookfield Place, which has its own holiday market and great views of the Statue of Liberty if you want to escape the hustle for a bit.

The Knickerbocker
For something right in the middle of the action, you can’t beat The Knickerbocker at Times Square.
We stayed here once during the holidays, and it’s the perfect spot if you want to be surrounded by all the lights and excitement.
The rooftop is a great place to grab a festive drink and watch the lights of Times Square below.
Inside, the lobby is always beautifully decorated, with a lovely tree that adds to the holiday atmosphere. Plus, you’re just steps away from Bryant Park’s Winter Village!

The Pierre, A Taj Hotel
Located right on Fifth Avenue with sweeping views of Central Park, The Pierre is one of those hotels where Christmas feels truly luxurious.
I’ve visited this hotel with my family during the holidays, and it’s always decked out in style. Think grand, elegant trees, shimmering garlands, and a warm, inviting lobby that feels perfect for escaping the cold.
It’s also close to some of the best shopping in NYC —Bergdorf Goodman and Bloomingdale’s are just around the corner, and their Christmas window displays are iconic.
Not sure about you but I love to enjoy some shopping time in the US! I get back with a ton of stuff I could never find in Italy!

If you’re looking for something with a bit more character, The Beekman in the Financial District is a real gem.
I stayed here with Aldo a couple of Christmases ago, and the lobby is nothing short of stunning—especially with the festive decor.
They don’t go over-the-top with traditional Christmas decorations, but the vibe is more intimate, with subtle, stylish touches that really bring out the historical charm of the place.
The nine-story atrium alone is worth seeing, all lit up during the holidays.
Plus, you’re just a quick walk from the South Street Seaport, which has its own quaint Christmas market.

For a more boutique experience, I love The Whitby Hotel in Midtown.
It’s not as flashy as some of the bigger hotels, but it has this quirky, artsy feel that’s so fun during the holidays.
I stayed here with Aldo last December, and the decorations were playful but still elegant—think colorful, creative Christmas trees and unique wreaths.

I have to mention 1 Hotel Central Park, especially if you’re someone who appreciates eco-friendly decor.
This place is all about sustainability, and their Christmas decorations reflect that in the most beautiful way.
When I stayed here, they had these gorgeous, nature-inspired decorations—think wooden ornaments, earthy tones, and natural greenery.
It feels warm, inviting, and like a perfect little winter retreat.
The hotel is also steps away from Central Park, so you can easily take a stroll through the snowy paths or head to Wollman Rink for some skating.

The Standard, High Line
If you’re into something more modern and a bit edgy, The Standard, High Line in the Meatpacking District is where you’ll want to stay.
I’ve visited a couple of times during the holidays, and the decor here is definitely more on the contemporary side.
They keep it fun and quirky with lots of lights and a lively atmosphere.
The best part?
Their outdoor skating rink and festive hot chocolate bar right outside!
Plus, you’re near the High Line park and Chelsea Market, both of which get into the holiday spirit with twinkling lights and festive events.

The NoMad Hotel
The Ned NoMad Hotel in Midtown has a charming, old-world feel that I absolutely love, especially during the holidays.
When I stayed here for a quick Christmas trip, the decor really stood out—elegant yet cozy, with dark wood accents and beautiful holiday garlands draped throughout the lobby and bar.
It’s a little bit off the beaten path compared to some of the more tourist-heavy spots, which I appreciate when I’m looking for a quieter stay.

This boutique luxury hotel near Times Square is one of those hidden gems that really shines during the holidays.

The Carlyle, A Rosewood Hotel
Stepping into The Carlyle at Christmas feels like stepping into a timeless New York holiday.
I’ve visited with my family for afternoon tea during the holidays, and the classic decorations—tasteful trees, elegant wreaths, and twinkling lights—create such a warm, nostalgic feeling.
It’s located on the Upper East Side, just a few blocks from Central Park, so you can easily enjoy a holiday walk through the park’s snowy paths.

The rooms are compact but well-designed, and the rooftop bar offers great views of the city’s skyline.

While not the kind of “budget accommodation” I usually refer to, it’s in a good location.
And New York City at Christmas can be super expensive so this is one of the best options you can get for this price range.

Moxy NYC Times Square
Moxy is trendy, fun, and best of all, affordable for its prime location.
You’re just steps from the Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree, Radio City Music Hall, and the holiday displays in Times Square.
The rooms are cleverly designed to maximize space, and the vibe is energetic and youthful. Plus, you’re close to the 42nd Street subway, which gives you access to all the festive neighborhoods.

Budget/Medium (usually $150-$200 per night).
If you’re okay with slightly smaller rooms, it’s a great way to experience the holiday buzz of NYC without paying a fortune.

- Stay outside of Manhattan: Neighborhoods like Long Island City in Queens or Williamsburg in Brooklyn offer great value, and the subway can get you to all the holiday sights quickly. For example, LIC Hotel is a clean, modern budget option just a few stops from Midtown.
- Book early: Christmas in NYC is peak season, so booking well in advance can save you a significant amount on hotel rates.
- Use hotel reward points: If you’ve accumulated points from travel rewards programs, the holiday season is a great time to cash them in, especially for otherwise expensive hotels.
